BORG Automotive, the largest independent remanufacturer of automotive spare parts in Europe, continuously expands its turbocharger range: From June to September, 28 new part numbers were added for a total of 1.226 vehicle applications in Europe. The three most popular part numbers from this expansion alone provide the Aftermarket with a perfect alternative to the original part for 7.7 million vehicles on European roads.

Following the latest expansion, BORG Automotive’s turbocharger range now includes 821 available part numbers. The vehicle coverage of the range, which is available on the Aftermarket under the Elstock, DRI, Lucas, and TMI brands, grows by 13 percentage points to a total of 80%. BORG Automotive’s range includes both wastegate and variable geometry turbos, activated both pneumatically and electrically.

Three fast movers with high Aftermarket potential

Of particular interest for distributors and workshops are three fast movers, which have just been introduced to the range and offer high market potential. For example, BORG Automotive now offers a turbo charger, which the Volkswagen-Group installs in many 1.5 TSi models since 2017. It fits the pure gasoline engine as well as the mild-hybrid variant and covers around 60 vehicle applications or 1.8 million cars in Europe – including models like the Audi A1, A3, and Q3, the Seat Leon, the Skoda Kodiaq, and Octavia models, as well as the VW Golf, Passat, and Tiguan.

Also, for newer vehicles from the Volkswagen Group, BORG Automotive has made a pneumatically actuated turbocharger with linear position sensor (LPS) available within its range. It provides distributors and workshops with an ideal alternative for the original turbocharger in around 3.3 million vehicles in Europe. It is used in many of the group’s popular models with 2.0-liter diesel engines: More than 90 vehicle applications are covered, from the Audi A3 to the Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia, and the Volkswagen Golf.

Finally, a turbo for the 1.2 PSA engine is also introduced: It fits over 50 vehicle applications from Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Opel and Vauxhall with 1.2 THP/PureTech engine – including the Citroën C3 and C4 as well as the Peugeot 208, 308 and 3008 and the Opel Crossland. These vehicles can be found 2.6 million times on European roads.

Quality and performance on a par with OE

Each part number guarantees perfect fit and performance, which applies not only to all the new turbochargers, but is also true of the entire range. Distributors and workshops receive quality on a par with new original parts. This is because BORG Automotive only remanufactures OE turbocharger cores. The remanufacturing process takes place at the group’s highly specialized Spanish plant, which is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 quality standard as well as to the particularly demanding IAFT 16949 supplier standard.

As part of a complex remanufacturing process, BORG Automotive disassembles and inspects each turbocharger. The team cleans the housing of oil and soot residues, polishes small scratches on the inlet and repairs threads that do not pass the quality inspection. This done, small parts and wear parts are replaced with spare parts from renowned Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Finally, each turbocharger passes more than 30 tests according to manufacturer specifications.

All new part numbers and vehicle application details have already been documented in TecDoc and in BORG Automotive’s electronic catalogs. They are delivered ready for installation and come with a two-year warranty with no mileage limit.
