MDM Motorsport, champions of the 2019 European GT4 category, has today announced that Tyler Cooke and Chandler Hull will be teaming up to bring an all-American flavour to its driver line-up for one of its cars this season. The team will be fielding two BMW M4 GT4’s to defend its series win, with reigning champion Simon Knapp, along with Daan Pijl, at the helm of the second car. Both Cooke and Hull have raced periodically in Europe but 2020 will mark the first time both drivers will compete for overall class honours.
New York-domiciled Cooke is no stranger to Victory Lane in GT4, having won the season-closing IMSA Continental Tire Championship race in 2018 at Road Atlanta in a BMW M4. However, after a largely frustrating year in ’19 punctuated by mechanical issues, Cooke is delighted to be racing with BMW again and is hopeful that the Atlantic switch will allow him to showcase his abilities in front of the right people.
“2019 was probably a year to forget but I could not be more excited to kick start my career in Europe. Racing there has always been a dream for me and now I am turning it into reality with a Championship winning team, MDM. The fact that I will be returning back to the BMW marque is the icing on the cake. Having finished 3rd overall in the IMSA GT4 series in 2018 with Bimmerworld it should be second nature to jump back into the seat and I’m really looking forward to keeping up MDM’s momentum from last year!”
Hull, from Dallas, Texas, progressed rapidly through the American club scene, before making his professional debut in 2019 with a BMW M240iR in SRO’s TC America series. Driving for Bimmerworld Racing, Hull surprised the touring car class with a third place in the championship, as well as securing the Rookie of the Year award. Over the course of the season, he captured four podiums, seven top five finishes, as well as one pole position.
2020 will be a busy year for Hull, as he looks to continue his campaign by returning to TC America by competing with Bimmerworld again. In addition, he will participate in the NLS, previously known as the VLN series at the legendary Nürburgring with Cameron Evans and will also compete in the ADAC 6 hour and 24 hour races with Charlie Postins, James Clay (his US teammate) and Evans.
Regrettably, Hull’s TC America commitments will conflict with the first round of the European GT4 championship at Silverstone on May 7-9th. He will be replaced by his ADAC teammate, Charlie Postins, who will co-drive with Cooke. Postins, originally from the UK, carved out a successful career in single seaters and Renault Clio’s before moving to the US in the 90s, sees this one-off race as very much a homecoming to his racing roots.
