As an industry that works almost exclusively with 12V batteries, and mostly lead acid batteries, the introduction of 16V lithium batteries in passenger vehicles represents an enormous change.

Perhaps not so surprising is that such a change is coming from Tesla, as the new model Y has exactly this; a 16V Lithium battery.

With the Model Y being one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the UK, this is big news. And although most garages may not expect to see these cars for a few years, this presents an immediate challenge for businesses that provide services to new cars early in their lives: windscreen repairers (especially for ADAS), body shops, and used car sales. As just about all battery chargers and other related equipment are 12V or 24V and undoubtedly cannot be used with a 16V battery, what happens when a dead or undercharged 16V lithium battery arrives in your workshop?

GYS has launched a 16V Lithium solution

GYS are the technology leader in battery charging, and their well-known GYSFlash range of Battery Support Units now features a mode for Lithium 16V. All CNT (Connected versions) of the GYSFlash have this function, and are available in 50A, 100A & 120A outputs.

One of the key benefits of the GYS Connected technology units is that existing units owned by customers can be updated free of charge by GYS.
